High-performance cinema lens for X Series

The lens delivers high optical performance and comfortable operability for professional video shooting. Along with MKX50-135mmT2.9, MKX18-55mmT2.9 is the first full manual cinema lens to be compatible with the X Series interchangeable camera. In the 35mm format equivalent, MKX18-55mmT2.9 covers a focal distance from 27mm to 84mm and achieves a constant T2.9*1 aperture across the entire zoom range, enabling a shallow depth of field as well as a beautiful bokeh effect. The lens design is optimized for shooting videos as it minimizes focus shift and optical axis shift while zooming, and reduces lens breathing (the change of angle of view during focusing). The lens also features three rings to enable manual and independent operation of focus, zoom, and iris (aperture), all with the gear pitch*2 of 0.8M (module). The focus rings can rotate fully up to 200 degrees to facilitate precise focusing. These features make the lens very comfortable and convenient to operate.

Features

“Achieves a lightweight design of approximately 1 kg and high optical performance

・ MKX18-55mmT2.9 adopts 22 elements in 17 groups including 6 super ED lenses and 2 ED lenses. Achieves high optical performance from the center of the screen to the periphery.

-By maximizing the advantages of the short flange back (* 1) of the “X mount” in optical design, both a lightweight design of approximately 1 kg and high optical performance are achieved. In combination with the “X series”, it demonstrates high mobility during shooting. In addition, it can be operated by a small number of people in order to achieve excellent operability at the shooting site.

・ The MKX18-55mm T2.9 is a standard zoom lens with a focal length of 27-84mm (* 2) that achieves T2.9 (* 3) brightness over the entire focal length, taking advantage of the bokeh in a shallow depth of field. It is possible to shoot images. In addition, it saves the trouble of readjusting the lighting and contributes to shortening the shooting time.

-Since it has an electronic contact with the camera, it is possible to correct distortion (* 4) and color / brightness shading (* 5) in addition to various video expressions using “film simulation”.

* 1: Distance from the mount surface of the lens mount to the sensor.

* 2: 35mm format equivalent.

* 3: The T value is an index showing the brightness of the lens, which is expressed in consideration of the F value and transmittance. The smaller the value, the brighter the lens.

* 4: A phenomenon in which the image shrinks or stretches at the periphery and is distorted when forming an image through the lens.

* 5: Inconsistency that occurs when converting the original color / brightness of the target image into a video signal.

Suppresses focus movement during zooming (changing the angle of view)

A method in which the front focus group and the zoom group are driven independently is adopted to suppress focus movement during zooming. There is no need to refocus after zooming. In addition, there is no time lag because the focus movement is suppressed optically and mechanically.

Suppresses angle of view fluctuation (breathing) during focusing

By adopting the front inner focus method, the angle of view fluctuation (breathing) during focusing is suppressed. Focusing in impressive scenes can be done without any discomfort.

Suppresses optical axis misalignment during zooming

By optimizing the optical and mechanical design of the lens for movie shooting, the optical axis shift during zooming is suppressed. You can shoot with the composition you want.

Demonstrate the comfortable operability required for movie shooting

-A wide angle of rotation is secured with a focus rotation angle of 200 degrees. Precise focusing is possible even when shooting at shallow depths of field, where high accuracy is required.

-Equipped with a triple ring that can operate focus, zoom, and iris (aperture) independently. Intuitive operation is possible by adopting a full manual mechanism not only for zoom but also for focus and iris.

-Unify the gear pitch (* 6) of all operation rings to 0.8 module, which is common for cinema lenses. You can use standard peripheral accessories that are essential for video production, such as follow focus for accurate and smooth focusing.

-Iris supports seamless adjustment that does not cause clicks. It realizes fine exposure adjustment and also prevents vibration and operating noise caused by clicking.

* 6: Distance between the teeth of the gear.

Comfortable operability is demonstrated by using the common design of “MKX18-55mmT2.9” and “MKX50-135mmT2.9”.

-Since the lens front frame diameter is 85 mm and the filter diameter is 82 mm, it is possible to share a matte box and filter.

-The gear position of the triple ring is unified, and there is no need to readjust the accessory position when replacing the lens.

-Equipped with a macro mechanism that allows you to shoot close to the subject. Enlarge the shooting scene covered by one.
MKX18-55mmT2.9: Subject distance (* 7)
0.38m (wide end) MKX50-135mmT2.9: Subject distance 0.85m (wide end)

-Equipped with a “flange back adjustment mechanism” (* 8). Even under the slight fluctuation of the flange back caused by temperature changes, the camera and lens are the best match, and the optical performance is fully brought out.

* 7: Distance from the image plane to the subject.

* 8: The image plane of the lens can be adjusted to the optimum position according to the flange back of the camera (distance from the lens mounting reference plane to the sensor).
