Vikas Babu

Vikas Babu a photo journalist based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. In my 16 years of career, I have covered almost every beat, from life to politics and even wildlife.
After having an illustrious career spanning more than one and half decade in the Print media and having worked with publishing giants like Forbes India, Dainik Jagran Group (Inext), Hindustan, Amar Ujala and Navbharat Times, the urge for creative satisfaction made me foray into entrepreneurship.
I have successfully completed photography assignments, Coffee Table Books for government bodies like Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow (SGPGI), and many others.
I have also been the mentor of camera elephantine Fujifilm and was awarded the prestigious ‘U.P. Best Photographer Award’ in ‘Nature & Environment’ category by the then CM Akhilesh Yadav in the year 2016.
Presently I am working as a freelance photo journalist and also nurturing my brain child ‘Odd Monk’, an advertising startup.
I have also been awarded with many international awards. Recently, I have won PMP INTERNATIONAL CIRCUIT 2021 award approved by FIAP (Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique), FIP (Federation of Indian Photography) and GPU (GLOBAL PHOTOGRAPHIC UNION) for recognising my work by bestowing 2 FIAP GOLD awards and 1 PMP MEDAL for my submission ‘Procession’, submitted under ‘Photo Travel’ category.

My travels and my documentary work involves interacting with people and being unobtrusive while also keeping weight and bulk of my equipment to a minimum. All these factors combined with excellent image characteristics made me jump into the Fuji system with the X100S in 2013. Over the next few years, I travelled extensively with it and eventually, completely switched form DSLRs to the Fujifilm Mirrorless system. I now use them exclusively for all my work. For me the X System gets out the way and allows the photographer to actualize the vision while at the same time provides the quality and technological support needed for professional work. The design and usability makes the cameras invisible and helps it to gel well with documentary and travel photography to the point that I think it becomes an extension of the eye.
